Government should work for the people who live inside it.

Matthew McClendon believes California can build public systems that are more understandable, accountable, affordable, and humane.

Why I’m running

California is capable of working better.

The systems that shape daily life are often hardest to understand precisely when people need them most.

Housing, education, transportation, technology, healthcare, and public services are not abstract policy categories. They determine what people can afford, trust, choose, and become.

Matthew has spent his career working where complex systems meet real human lives. He believes public institutions should be designed with the same care, accountability, and attention we expect from anything built to carry our future.

Priorities

Three commitments to start.

01

A California people can afford

Housing, transportation, education, and everyday essentials should make it possible to build a life here—not force families to leave.

02

Public systems that earn trust

Government should be understandable, accountable, and designed around the people who depend on it.

03

Technology in the public interest

California can lead on innovation while protecting human agency, public institutions, workers, and communities.

Meet Matthew

A systems thinker. A builder. A Californian.

Matthew McClendon is a designer, strategist, writer, and longtime student of the institutions and technologies that shape public life.

Across his career, he has helped organizations make consequential systems clearer, more trustworthy, and more responsive to the people using them. His work begins with a simple conviction: systems are never neutral. They distribute possibility.

This biography is an initial campaign draft. The final version will add Matthew’s community, family, and district story.

The district

Representation begins with place.

Before this campaign speaks for a district, it should listen to one.

This section will become a grounded portrait of the communities, industries, institutions, challenges, and possibilities within Matthew’s Assembly district.
